SRV-Record

Information about SRV entries


The following text explains you how to configure an SRV record for your domain.

 

What is a SRV-Record?

A SRV record is often used to connect a subdomain directly with an IP to a specific port. 

For instance TeamSpeak3, Voiceserver or a Gitlab server.

 

The next point is the SRV-Record.

 

How do I create a SRV-Record?

The instruction is tailored to the domain administration of the Signaltransmitter customer center.

 

First of all you login to your account after that you go to customer center then to the domain administration and there you can select your own domain, for which the SRV record should be created. Secondly you have to look for the Button Edit DNS Records .

 

1. A-Record


Before you can generate your SRV-Record you have to create an A-Record first. This is needed, because the subdomain should be pointed to the desired IP.

Therefor you select — from the above listed DNS records — out of Typ A.

Now you can generate your desired subdomain, which should point to the IP address of your Voiceserver, TeamSpeak3, Gitlab server, etc.

Directly after you have created the A-Record — subdomain as the value and the IP as the target — you can start to actualize the SRV record.

 

2. SRV-Record


Create now a new record and set the typ of the record of SRV. Afterwards you write into the input field: the service, the protocol — which should be reached — and the subdomain (without the main domain).

 

This should look like this in the end:


_SERVICE._PROTOCOL.SUBDOMAIN _ts3._udp.ts

 

The example for the input fieldname for a TeamSpeak 3 Voiceserver with the subdomain ts.domain.de should look like this:

 

_ts3._udp.ts

 

Finally there is an input field calledvalue, which is needed, to enter the priority of the entry, the target port and the subdomain.

Take as a default value priority 10.

The example for the input field value for the TeamSpeak 3 Voiceserver with the Subdomain ts.domain.de should look like this:

 

10 9987 ts.domain.de
